After a long silence we finally heard from Sukoshi again. Between bouts of GRE studying, she has also successfully gotten into Round 2 of interviews with ████████, which means she could soon be a busybusy hataraki engineer! We wish her all the best,  and at the same time also announce Penguin (not-quite-)simulsub project dropped. It was a short but fun six episodes, and we may eventually release it with the blurays, but for now real life takes precedence.

Our other projects are still on-going (if a little slow in progress), and per our usual policy will not be announced until completion or recruitment.

Just a quick post to say that Sukoshi has a couple of quizzes to study for (one of those troublesome trivialties otherwise known as Real Life™), so episode 7 release will be delayed.

ZUM presents, for your viewing pleasure, Mawaru Penguindrum Episode 5! In which a Penguinhat is made fun of, curry stew is eaten, and a Nadine lays the verbal hurt on an apple. Trucks are chased, and money changes hands. What will Ikuhara spew from his mind next? As always we welcome any and all comments on our blog. The staff here at ZUM reads the comments quite diligently and does indeed take feedback to heart, and we often do reply to comments.

TL notes

A mask for laughter — 04:01

lit. “Mask of laughter” (). this line is rather visual in nature, so here we tried to convey a more sensible interpretation, “mask for [inciting] laughter.”

Ringo’s curry — 07:09

Again, like in episode 3, curry is a pun on Oginome’s crush on Tabuki (彼; kare = boyfriend).

Destiny Diary — 13:37

Nothing in this line explicitly suggests that the destiny diary (運命日記) is a proper noun, but since destiny diaries are not exactly common nouns either, and this one seems to be an essential part of the story, we’ve decided to accord it that status.
If our hunch is proven wrong, we’ll just revert it for the Bluray v2s :P

This is the first airing series we are subbing. We won’t be as fast as speedsub groups, but we aim to release not more than a week after airing.
